Ronald Koning, Sr., a member of a large family of skilled electricians, opened his own electrical construction business, State Electric Corporation, in 1988 to service the Greater Boston market. In 2006, his sons, Ronald Koning, Jr. and Jon Koning, president and vice president respectively, purchased the company from their father, who retired in 2009.
Ronald “Ronnie” Koning, Jr.
Ronnie has been in the electrical industry for over 33 years and with State Electric since its inception in 1988, where he started as a journeyman electrician and rose to vice president in 2003. With his knowledge and experience gained in all the key positions along the way—foreman, general foreman and project manager—Ronnie was well prepared to take the presidency and ownership with his brother in 2006, and direct State Electric’s future.
Throughout his tenure, Ronnie has been responsible for the supervision and management of a wide array of projects across a range of markets for industry leaders including NSTAR, National Grid, Constellation Energy, Exelon, Sithe Energy, Raytheon, MIT, Harvard, Boston College, Emerson College, and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
As a principal and president, Ronnie has been instrumental in positioning State Electric to qualify and compete for projects among an expanding group of clients including John Moriarty & Associates, Skanska USA, Bond Brothers, and Turner Construction. His steadfast commitment to upholding the firm to quality work and a “customer-first” attitude has helped establish State Electric as a top performer in the construction and utility communities.
Ronnie is proud of his commitment to continuing training and education, and with providing clients with value-added service. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Boston Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and sits on the Joint Apprentice Training Committee as the NECA representative.
Corporate Vice President
Jon has over 31 years of construction experience in the utility and commercial electrical markets. As a principal and corporate vice president, Jon will be responsible for the construction process, quality control, and safety programs across all of our construction groups.
Jon’s career began as an electrical apprentice with State Electric when the company opened in 1988. Over the years, he has held positions as journeyman electrician, general foreman, and project manager in all of the service groups. Under Jon’s leadership as Vice President, Utility Electrical Construction, the group has delivered some of New England’s most complex and unique projects for such industry leaders as NSTAR, National Grid, Constellation Energy, Exelon, MIT, Site, and Raytheon, including the construction and/or renovation of over 20 substations for municipalities and utility power companies. Additionally, under Jon’s leadership, State Electric is now a recognized leader in storm restoration, responding to several natural disasters across the country including Hurricane Katrina, where State had over 130 linemen assisting Mississippi workers restore power.
Known in the industry for his “hands on” approach, Jon’s extensive experience with utility power and distribution systems is an invaluable asset to our clients.
Vice President, Commercial Electrical Construction
With over 18 years in the industry, Brendan began his career as an apprentice electrician after graduating from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science. Over the next five years, he worked in the communications industry as a senior PBX technician and field installation manager. In 2002, Brendan joined Mass Electric as senior estimator. Two years later, he began his project management career working in several market sectors and with various types of delivery methods, including as part of the project team for the design build project for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Brendan joined State Electric in 2005 as a project manager, becoming vice president of the Commercial Electrical Construction group in 2010. Responsible for overall construction operations, project delivery, scheduling, quality control, and safety, Brendan has led this group to a strong position in the Eastern Massachusetts construction market, building market share with such clients as Raytheon, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Exelon, and Skanska.
Vice President, Utility Electrical Construction
After graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Rick began his career at Mass Electric Construction Company, a division of Kiewit Construction, as an apprentice in 1984. Over the next 20 years, he held positions as foreman, general foreman, project manager, and sponsor. With the position of sponsor for the Power Group, Rick was also involved with multiple projects within the Industrial Group of Kiewit Construction operating nationwide.
Recently promoted to vice president, Utility Electric Construction, Rick has been an integral part of State Electric’s success in the Utility power industry since joining the company in 2004 as a project manager in the Utility Electrical Construction group.
Over his 29-year career, Rick has managed many specialized and complex projects for a wide range of clients in the utility power industry including Massport, MBTA, National Grid, NStar, Dominion Power, and TransCanada.
As State Electric’s controller, Jane is responsible for the overall management of our company’s financial operations. Jane began her accounting career in 1999, upon graduating from Zhongnan University in Wuhan, China. After working for two years as an assistant auditor, accountant and assistant financial manager, Jane left China to pursue a career in the U.S. She attended Bowling Green State University, graduating with a Master of Accountancy Degree in 2005.
Jane joined State Electric in 2005 and was quickly promoted to company controller in 2006. A certified public accountant, Jane works directly with the president, focusing on the management, analysis and presentation of all corporate financial information and reporting.
