Storm Restoration Crews Respond To 3 Nor’easters In 2 Weeks
BEDFORD, MA (March, 2018)- From March 2nd until March 13th, Massachusetts was pummeled with three destructive nor’easters. Over the course of the three storms, around a million customers were left without power. State Electric’s Storm Restoration crews were called in by Eversource and told to report to the Plymouth Service Center on March 2nd to help restore power to the area, not knowing they would be working for over two weeks.
The crews worked without a break from Duxbury to Wareham restoring power until March 7th. During that time they were even able to energize the whole town of Wareham. After the 2nd storm hit on the 7th, the crews were transferred to Eversource’s Waltham Service Center and restored power to many homes and businesses in Carlisle and Bedford. But the work was not over, on March 13th an unprecedented third Nor’easter in two weeks hit Massachusetts. The crews were called back down to Plymouth for their final round of restoration efforts until they were released on March 16th at 8 pm. During that time State Electric’s crews were all over the South Shore restoring power to thousands.
In the history of the company, this is the longest stretch of time our crews have ever had to be consecutively out on storm restoration in New England. Working to restore power after a storm is extremely tough, dangerous, and demands strong leadership and everyone’s commitment to safety. Our team here at State Electric is second to none. Led by Jon Koning and Dennis Lindsay, our crews always have a strong commitment to performance and safety. But it doesn’t stop there, in addition to our managers we are also fortunate to have an exceptional crew of 28 linemen/electricians from both Locals 103 and 104. During the two weeks our crews were out there, they worked 251 hours each and 7,028 total, restoring power to roughly a million customers injury free. That is an accomplishment to be proud of.
We are extremely happy all of our crews were able to safely get back to their families after a grueling 15 days. Along with a lot of Eversource’s customers, we can’t thank the guys enough for their diligent and spectacular work!
