State’s Special Projects Division Installs Influential Piece For Boston’s HUBweek
Awarded By: Skanska
BEDFORD, MA (October, 2017)- Skanska has awarded State Electric’s Special Projects Division the electrical work for the entrance to Boston’s HUBweek. It is a first-of-its-kind civic collaboration and weeklong festival that brings together the most creative and innovative minds who make an impact in art, science, and technology. HUBweek begins October 11 and runs until the 15. The Boston Globe, Harvard University, MIT and Massachusetts General Hospital founded HUBweek, to support and strengthen the innovation ecosystem and to connect people to it from here and abroad.
A festival as innovative as HUBweek, calls for an extraordinarily unique and dynamic entrance. As participants walk through HUBweek’s entrance at the Boston’s City Hall Plaza, they will be greeted by “The Butterfly Effect”. This effect will be made up of origami butterflies that are crafted from recycled billboard vinyl and paint chips, to illustrate how materials reclaimed from the construction waste stream can be changed, re-animated and repurposed into immersive and technology-infused art. The goal is to encourage people to pause and reflect before they enter the festival. State Electric is responsible for installing light fixtures for nighttime effects, floodlights with different color lenses, power for the butterfly controller and two projectors that will display “The Butterfly Effect” at the entrance.
