121 Seaport: Alexion Pharmaceuticals Electrical & Low Voltage Fit Out
BEDFORD, MA (February, 2018)- Skanska has awarded State Electric the Alexion Pharmaceuticals fit-out project at 121 Seaport. Alexion is a global biopharmaceutical company that focuses on developing life-changing therapies for patients affected by rare diseases. The fit-out consists of the electrical, tele/data, audiovisual and security work for floors 3 thru 8 of the 17 story, 450,000 SF elliptical office tower. In parallel State Electric, continues to work towards the completion of the core and shell electrical work, which started in the 3rd Q of 2016. Project Manager Luke Rebisz, having recently completed the Seaport B & C job, is spearheading the electrical portion of the project. SEC’s in-house design team made up by General Foremen Jay Pagum, CAD Coordinator Rocco Capalino and Senior Estimator Mike Parker have worked with Skanska and the owner’s project design team to complete the building’s systems design, construction drawings and BIM model while maintaining budget. State Electric is fortunate to have people like Jay, Rocco and Mike who have the knowledge and ability to work on in-house design assist projects such as Alexion. Jay will continue on, going from designer to General Foreman on the project.
State Electric’s Low Voltage Group has begun work on the tele/data, audiovisual and security portions of the Alexion fit-out. Low Voltage Project Managers CJ Quinn and Joe Vaccari will be tackling the project which includes: copper & fiber optic cabling infrastructure, wireless access points, access control, surveillance systems, as well as installing all flat panel displays and associated audiovisual components. Low Voltage Manager, Jeff Flynn continues to grow the group with high performance on major projects throughout Boston.
Alexion Pharmaceuticals plans to be operational in their new headquarters by June of this year. Presently sitting at 25% complete, our crews are currently working two shifts to guarantee an on-time completion. Always exploring new ways to drive the job and pick up schedule, our team is working closely with our fire alarm vendor to produce shop drawings from field generated sketches in order to streamline the design and permitting process. This allows us to fast-track the project by proceeding with the cable installation prior to having the fire alarm vendor shop drawings. State Electric always strives to expedite project schedules by any means possible and these are just some examples of strategies implemented to do so.
State Electric is pleased to be part of this project team and to be closely collaborating with Skanska on the Alexion Project, which brings yet another dynamic building to Boston’s Seaport District.
