This 180,000 square foot project in downtown Boston included the renovation of an historic 590-seat theater and the construction of a new nine-story, 146,000 square foot multi-use building with a black box theater, rehearsal studios, practice rooms, classrooms, faculty offices and new dormitory space for 260 students. This two-year project completed in 2010.
Two life safety generators servicing an adjacent building had to be relocated without compromising the life safety systems of the existing building before work on the foundations of the new building could begin.
State Electric developed a 31-page report and successfully coordinated a 16-hour cutover, which included the assignment of over 50 Boston firefighters to perform a fire watch in the existing high-rise tower. The Boston Fire Department labeled this effort as “never been done before.”
